Carmen Winant was born in 1983 in San Francisco, grew up in
Philadelphia, and studied art and art history at UCLA, where she
also ran cross country and track. She has spent most of the past
two years in New York City and anticipates pursuing graduate work
in art and critical studies in the near future.
Carmen's work is thematically situated in the intersections of
commodification, desire, subjecthood, and intimacy, with a
particular eye to the potential and contradictions within third wave
feminism. She is currently working on a series of drawing projects,
as well as the ongoing photographic exploration of her immediate
family. She is a recipient of a Puffin Foundation Artist grant.
